Municipalities and smart cities
A municipality’s scattered facilities, one energy view
Service buildings, social facilities, workshops and field sites are managed under separate subscriptions and separate invoices. GenieBlocks brings their electricity data, invoices and maintenance onto one platform, and the same architecture scales from a single building to a city. If data must stay in-house, the platform can run on the organisation’s own servers (on-prem).
Three common problems
Many subscriptions, many invoices
Every facility is a separate subscription and a separate invoice. Spotting a wrong or unexpected invoice means comparing many line items by hand.
Explore: Invoices and savings
Extra costs from reactive power and capacity
When a facility’s power factor correction fails, a reactive energy charge can appear on the invoice, often noticed only when the bill arrives. Without tracking peak demand, installed power can’t be planned properly either.

Building-level reporting
Reporting consumption by building, tracking savings targets and calculating emissions means collecting data from different sources by hand.

How the platform addresses them

Invoice Tracking
Tracking and checking the invoices issued to the site.
Supply Contracts

Reactive Power & Penalty Risk
Power factor, compensation threshold and likely penalty.
Installed Power & Capacity
Allocated power, peak demand and night-time base load.

Where the data comes from
You start without replacing your existing systems. Today the platform takes data from:
- OSOS
- Modbus (RTU / TCP)
- LoRaWAN
- REST API
- MCP
Connected in the setup project: M-Bus · IEC 62056-21 · RS-485 · Pulse output · Analogue (4-20 mA, 0-10 V) · MQTT · Databases on your own servers
If your device isn't listed, we add it together.
How we work
The platform and Genie come from GenieBlocks. On-site installation, devices and maintenance are carried out with local solution partners as needed. A project can start directly with GenieBlocks or through a solution partner.
Regulation
For public-sector buildings, under article 9 of the regulation, buildings with a total construction area of at least 10,000 m² or annual energy consumption of at least 250 toe appoint an energy manager or contract this service. On a campus, the construction areas of separate buildings are added together; consumption is based on the average of the last three years. Obliged parties submit their energy consumption data to the Ministry by the end of March each year.

How it works: Seeing reactive power risk before the invoice
In a service building’s AMR (OSOS) data, inductive reactive consumption starts rising relative to active consumption.
The Reactive Power & Penalty Risk module shows the power factor and the approach to the threshold. Genie prepares a draft recommending a check of the compensation panel.
The energy unit approves the draft, and a work order is opened for the maintenance team.
After the fix, the power factor is tracked on the same screen; at the end of the period the invoice is checked line by line in Invoice Tracking.
This is an example use case; it does not describe a specific organisation or result.
Let’s talk about your facility
